Prof. Jianping Fan is currently the President of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Science; Leader of the Preparatory Group of Shenzhen University of Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Degree Evaluation Committee Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Permanent Member of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; and Vice President of Shenzhen Institute of Talent Research, Shenzhen, China.

His research interests include high-performance computing, cloud computing, parallel and distributed computing. He is one of the founders of the “Dawning Series” high-performance computer. He proposed the concept of "low-cost health" for the first time in China, and he is the advocate and leader of low-cost health, leading to complete the nationwide low-cost health named "Sea-cloud Project". He has accomplished more than 10 projects of National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program) in China, published 3 academic monographs and more than 159 papers, and has over 81 authorized patents.

He has received many awards, including the First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, Special Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Youth Science and Technology Award, Outstanding Youth Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Excellence Award of National Invention Patent, and Gold Award of Guangdong Province Invention Patent. 

Prof. Fan has been titled with a number of glories, such as the advanced individual of the National "Ninth Five-Year Plan" and "863" Program. He was selected as a national talent in the "New Century Talent Project" and recipient of special government allowances from State Council. He was awarded with the Shenzhen Mayor Award in 2014. In 2020, he was awarded as one of the 40 innovative and entrepreneurial figures and advanced models in the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. In 2021, he was elected as the academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (IEAS). In 2022, he won the National Labor Medal of China.
