Dr. Zhiwei Xu is a professor and CTO of the Institute of Computing Technology (ICT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His prior industrial experience included chief engineer of Dawning Corp. (now Sugon as listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange), a leading high-performance computer vendor in China. His research interests include high-performance computer architecture and distributed systems. He currently leads Software-Defined Cloud Computing Systems, a priority basic research project supported by China's Ministry of Science and Technology. He has served on editorial boards of international journals such as IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, Parallel Computing, and program committees for international conferences such as HPCA, HPDC, and Supercomputing. He currently serves as Editor in Chief of the Journal of Computer Science and Technology. Pro. Xu holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of Southern California, an MS degree from Purdue University, and a BS degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
Zhiwei Xu is currently a research fellow at the Institute of Computing Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of the Academic Committee, and a professor at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology in 1982, his master’s degree from Purdue University in 1984, and his doctorate from the University of Southern California in 1987. Long-term research in high-performance computing architecture and distributed systems. He has served as chief engineer, Research Fellow, Deputy Director, Chief Engineer, director of the Degree Committee, and Director of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has published several books, including “Scalable Parallel Computing” and “Introduction to computer science,” put forward some academic ideas such as inclusive computing, man-machine-matter triple computing, and computing etiquette, and contributed to the open-source software of big data cloud computing to the international community. He was awarded the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, the State Science and Technology Prizes, and the Wang Xuan Award of the Chinese Computer Society.
