Lei Xi, PhD, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Southern University of Science and Technology. His major research focuses on the development of novel multimodal optical imaging techniques, especially photoacoustic microscopy. He has published more than 70 journal papers as the first/corresponding author, which are cited by academic journals including Nature Methods for more than 2, 300 times. Several papers entered the Top Downloads of OSA journals, and some of them were highlighted by OSA News. In recent three years, he delivered more than 10 invited talks in international/domestic conferences such as SPIE Photonics West and Photonics Europe. Until now, he has applied for 30 patents and got 4 granted. He is currently serving as associate editor of Journal of Medical Imaging of Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), editorial member of Journal of Biophotonics, member of the Biophotonics Committee of Chinese Optical Society, the Imaging Technology Branch of China Medical Biotechnology Association, and the Biophotonics Committee of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering. In the past five years, he has won 11 external grants with a total amount of ~$ 2,200,000 from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and provincial/local funding agents. With the support from the school and the government, I have collaborated with PAOMTEK Co., Ltd. and released the 1st generation photoacoustic microscope at the end of 2019, which has been installed in over 10 research institutes/universities such as University of Macau, Central South University, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and Sichuan University.
